Local Sports Tournament Boosts Economy & Community Pride

The Vail Lacrosse Tournament will celebrate its 23rd year this June, bringing nearly 2,000 youth players and 3,000 spectators to Vail Valley for three days of team building, training, and friendly competition. A boost for the local economy the annual event draws teams of tourists who come for the awe-inspiring views, family-friendly lodging and mountain activities, all the while bringing an unfettered enthusiasm for youth sports.

A total valley takeover, the Vail Lacrosse Tournament will take place Monday – Wednesday on June 19-21, spanning 14  tournament sites throughout the valley including locations in Vail, Eagle-Vail, Avon, in neighboring Edwards. As a result, the locally produced event fills local accommodations and area activities in the heat of the summer — providing a perfect opportunity for local merchants to capture a national audience during an otherwise mid-week lull.

An all-American event, the tournament offers more than just a boom to mid-week tourism. According to recent studies by the University of Minnesota, large family-oriented events like Vail Lacrosse Tournament help foster community pride, strengthen social relations and provide a one-in-a-kind training opportunity for students of all ages to connect with national players in a hometown environment.

With nearly a quarter century under its belt, the annual Vail Lacrosse Tournament has hosted multiple generations of players in the Vail area on their summer vacation. Stories of players whose parent’s who once dominated the fields are rampant among the large community that returns to the high altitude games each year on the hunt for the tournament trophy.  In fact, even the event has even passed from the original organizer Mark Foster to the leadership of his children, the dynamic duo of Kristen Cooley and Mark Foster and like all good things, the event continues to grow with the generations at ease.

The Vail Lacrosse Tournament kicks off next month, and spectators are free to attend any of the scheduled Lacrosse events at no cost. For additional details about the event and a number of activities available for families looking to get away for the weekend, check out ColoradoLacrosse.com
